Day 22 - Oh, the bloat

I am so bloated that I could barely eat today and my new diet was a bit of a fail. I got back on track for lunch, my biggest meal of the day, but haven't been able to stomach any snacks and my dinner is all measured out and ready to eat, but I'm just waiting to feel hungry again. When I sit or bend over, I feel this discomfort in my midsection like there's a giant air bubble in there. Everything feels backed up and just generally gross. I was feeling a bit slimmer in my belly until last night... now I feel like a new layer of fat is taking residence over my new abs. WTF?

Tomorrow I am going to try to move my exercises back to the morning. I'm not sure when it's best to do them. Over the last few days I've switched to mid-morning and today it was mid-afternoon. I felt like I was starting to simply procrastinate, though, so want to get back on track.

Questions for Patrick that I will ask here in case these are burning questions for someone else too:

1. What IS the best time of day to work out? I feel like maybe I read this somewhere already... but I can't figure out exactly where.
2. What's up with sweet potatoes? Are they carbs? Are they veg? Are they something that I just shouldn't eat?

That's it for today. Let's hope the bloat goes away soon.

  1. I actually asked about potatos in general and patrick said that we should consider them a vegetable. Not sure if sweet potatos apply.

  2. Dude - sorry you're feeling lousy, but your new photos look AWESOME. I can't even begin to think about what a badass you're going to look like in 70 days....

I've assumed that sweet potatoes are more a vegetable than regular potatoes are. They're lower in carbs and higher in all sorts of other good stuff (i'm not a nutritionist, but I love to google things:)

Google also tells me that a cure for bloating is, wait for it... EXERCISE:) That and lots of water. Hope you feel better soon...

  3. Bah! If exercise and water are the cure then I'll expect to feel better in the morning. I think I'm just eating so much freaking food that my, ahem... "system" has not caught up yet! Thanks for the compliment!

  4. The bloat will pass...it does suck though. Also, didn't you say you were on your period? That always gives me the bloat. Definitely made worse by all the veggies, if your system ain't used to that yet. I'm sure things will normalize quickly.

I eat TONS of sweet potatoes - like, I bake 3 or 4 every few days. I consider them veg. Way more nutritious than regular white potatoes. And so, so good. ;)

    Nice photos, Erin! Gettin' peaky!!

  5. Question 1 : No good or bad time to exercise. All depends on your schedule and what kind of person you are.

Question 2 : Vegetables are vegetables. A sweet potato is a vegetable. Therefore it's a vegetable.

  6. I too was feeling bloated and bad and it passed after a day or so. But I agree with you, sometimes it is hard to eat when your body just isn't feeling hungry!

  7. I can commiserate with both the bloat and the period. It sometime feels like my uterus is trying to assassinate me. Really, the only aspect of being a female that I just don't like.
